Enough: Leaving My CEO Husband
Enough: Leaving My CEO Husband
The penthouse was silent, save for the faint hum of the city below. The floor-to-ceiling windows offered a breathtaking view of the skyline, but Claire barely noticed. She stood in the center of the room, her suitcase open on the bed, methodically folding clothes and placing them inside. Each item felt like a piece of her life she was packing away—a life she had once thought was perfect.
Daniel had always been larger than life. Handsome, powerful, and impossibly charming, he was the kind of man who turned heads wherever he went. When they first met, Claire had been swept off her feet. He was the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, a man who seemed to have it all. And for a while, she had believed she had it all too.
But the cracks had started to show.
At first, it was little things. The late nights at the office that turned into weekends away. The missed anniversaries, the forgotten promises. Claire had told herself it was just the price of being married to a man like Daniel. He was busy, important. She could be patient.
But patience had its limits.
The final straw had come last night. It was their fifth wedding anniversary, and Claire had spent hours preparing a romantic dinner. She’d cooked his favorite meal, lit candles, even put on the dress he’d bought her for their first date. She’d waited, her heart sinking with each passing hour, until finally, at midnight, he’d stumbled through the door, reeking of whiskey and perfume that wasn’t hers.
“I’m sorry,” he’d slurred, his words barely coherent. “Important meeting. You understand, right?”
Claire had stood there, staring at him, the man she’d once loved so deeply. And in that moment, she’d realized something: she didn’t love him anymore. Maybe she hadn’t for a long time.
Now, as she zipped up her suitcase, she felt a strange sense of calm. She wasn’t angry anymore. She wasn’t even sad. She was just… done.
The sound of the front door opening broke the silence. Claire froze, her heart skipping a beat. She hadn’t expected him home so early.
“Claire?” Daniel’s voice echoed through the penthouse.
She took a deep breath, steadying herself, and walked out of the bedroom. He was standing in the living room, his tie loosened, his hair disheveled. When he saw the suitcase in her hand, his eyes widened.
“What’s going on?” he asked, his voice tinged with panic.
“I’m leaving,” Claire said, her voice calm but firm.
Daniel blinked, as if he couldn’t quite process what she was saying. “What do you mean, you’re leaving? This is your home.”
“No,” Claire said, shaking her head. “This is your home. I’ve just been living in it.”
He took a step toward her, his expression softening. “Claire, come on. We can work this out. I know I’ve been busy, but—”
“Busy?” she interrupted, her voice rising. “Daniel, you’ve been absent. For years. You’ve been so focused on your company, your meetings, your… whatever else you’ve been doing, that you forgot I even existed. And I’m tired of waiting for you to remember.”
He opened his mouth to argue, but no words came out. Instead, he just stood there, staring at her, as if seeing her for the first time.
Claire took a deep breath, her resolve hardening. “I deserve more than this, Daniel. I deserve someone who sees me, who values me. And if that’s not you, then I’m done trying to make it work.”
For a long moment, neither of them spoke. The silence stretched between them, heavy and unyielding. Finally, Daniel nodded, his shoulders slumping in defeat.
“If that’s what you want,” he said quietly.
Claire picked up her suitcase and walked past him, toward the door. She paused, her hand on the knob, and looked back at him one last time.
“Goodbye, Daniel.”
And with that, she walked out, leaving behind the life she’d once thought was perfect. It wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. Because sometimes, enough was enough.
